Institute of Geography of Russian Academy of Science
The institute was founded in 1918 in Petrograd as a Department for industrial and geographic study of Russia within the Commission for study of Russian natural production power of Russian Academy of Science. In1926 became Geographic department of the Commission, in 1930 – geomorphologic institute of Academy of Science. In 1934 it was moved to Moscow as an Institute for physical geography, since 1936 – Institute of Geography of Academy of Science, USSR, since 1992 – present name. The institute is making fundamental researches, expeditional and experimental researches in physical, economic and social geography. Emphasized attention is paid to processes of change of territory structure of the world and European social, economic, geopolitical and cultural environment.
